Rhinos - Week 5

Rhinos are big heavily armored mammals that you will find all around Africa, most of the time they are peaceful herbivores but if they are provoked they will charge.
Here is a photo of a rhino.

This rhino's horn is strong enough to kill three grown men, if you are charged by a rhino and you survive you will consider it a miracle.

How to survive a rhino:
If you just happen to be riding around in a jeep or car in Africa and you come across a rhino, if you don't want it to charge you, turn off everything in the car and keep still no matter what until the rhino goes away.

How to tell if a rhino is about to charge:
If you see a rhino with its horn on the ground, it means it it going to charge, it will look a bit like this.

So if you see a rhino like this, stay still and don't move.

The Summarising Strategy - Week 4

We often use the summarising strategy when we are finding information out of books and texts.
I'll now show an example of the summarising strategy:

What you do is you find some key words out of a book or text and write them down on your computer or book. Then you you choose some of the key words and write a sentence  in your own words, because if you copy straight out of the book or text that's called plagiarism.  People can get into a lot of trouble if you are plagiarizing.

Here is an example of a sentence:

Key words

dog
cat

Dogs love to chase cats because they do not like them out and about in their territory.

Matchstick Maths - Week 3

In Room 12 we have been learning about measuring accurately and Mrs Miller said that we had to make our name out of 50 match sticks and it had to be 20 cm tall or 1 metre long.  Here is my name.

This maths was hard and challenging but really fun. I did the one where you had to make it a metre long.
We had to measure accurately because if our starting point and finishing point were wrong that basically mucks the whole thing, that's why we have to measure accurately.
After we finished our name, Mrs Miller gave us a sheet and we had to work out the value of someones name.

All About Sharks - Week 2

Sharks are fierce sea creatures, in fact it is the king of the sea - here are some photos.

This is a great white shark, the strongest of all sharks.  In fact, he is the king of the sea.
Sharks are strong enough to take down a blue whale.Sharks always attack whales from below because they know that they will  get wiped by their tail.  Sharks are in fact at the bottom of the food chain. Tiger sharks will eat anything in it's path, even poisonous snakes like this  (Yellow bellied - sea snake)

And that's my report on sharks.
