Rollerblade Hockey.

Rollerblade hockey is basically hockey with roller blades on but the difference is that you can golf swing the stick,
You use a puck and not a ball, and the stick doesn't have to be up to your belly button, it has to be up to your chin.
Here is a video.

Animal Band Reader's Theater

Walt performe to an audiience
Success Criteria:
  • speak clearly
  • speak loudly
  • speak with expression
  • speak together as a group

September 4th 2015

Room 12 performed a play called the Animal Band in front of the whole school.
When we did the animal band we did a technique called Reader's Theater which means we did our parts together.
The characters were the Donkeys, the Roosters, the cats, the Dogs, the robbers, the readers, and the narrators.
One of the characters in each group did the acting except the robbers witch all did the acting.
My character which was also Jacks and Max's was robber 3.  Our line was "We have to get out, let's run into the forest and hide!" with lots of expression of course.
When we were on stage and the school started pouring in I got nervous, but then I saw some other classmates looking nervous witch made me say to myself I am not the only one that is nervous witch gave me confidence.
Here are some photos.

Here is a photo in my robber costume.

Here is a photo of my group and my updated  costume.

Rivers are better than Beaches.

WALT persuade other students to agree with our opinion.  This the purpose for my writing.
Success Criteria:
  1. I plan for a writing task
  2. I write a variety of sentence lengths with different sentence starters
  3. Give reasons with detail - use specific words
  4. I write most topic and high frequency words correctly.
  5. I use capital letters, fullstops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly.
  6. Use persuasive language

Rivers are better than beaches

I strongly believe that rivers are better than beaches . Here are three main reasons to support my argument…

One reason is, are that beaches are way more dangerous than rivers. Because there are rips and huge waves but in the river they don’t have them so that makes them more safe to swim in .

Another reason is, there are sea creatures that can hurt you like stingrays, jellyfish and sea urchins which makes it not safe to swim in the sea. plus there have been several reports of people swimming in the ocean and being eaten by sharks, and that's another reason that rivers are safer to swim in.

Finally, if swimming at the beach and suddenly the sand breaks beneath your feat and you could fall into a deep hole and drown, there might be an undertow and it will suck you into the water and out to sea but not when you are in the river.

 yes                                         no

Beaches are dangerous.

Therefore I believe that rivers are better than beaches.

Country Life is better than City Life - Term 3 Week 2

Walt students to agree with our opinion.  This the purpose for my writing
Success Criteria:.
  1. I plan for a writing task
  2. I write a variety of sentence lengths with different sentence starters
  3. Give reasons with detail - use specific words
  4. I write most topic and high frequency words correctly.
  5. I use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly.
  6. Use persuasive language

Country life is better than City life

I strongly believe that country life is better than city life

If you live in the country you get more fresh air because there are no cars to pollute the air. There are no factories to make our plants and vegetables go rotten because the gas that is made by factories is toxic to the air and our plants need air, so factories are actually killing our plants.

You get more fitness when you live in the country because  you have to walk everywhere you go. Most people that live in the country don’t have cars but if they do have cars they often don’t work so they have to walk everywhere.

Another reason is that you get to explore the hills and forests and you can look for wildlife like rabbits and deer.  If you have a river near your house you can go swimming in summer instead of paying money to go to swimming centres.

Therefore I believe that country life is better than city life.

Matariki Reflection - Week 10

Lachlan Sewing (2).JPG

Last Monday was Kauri hubs Matariki workshop day. You had to choose 3 workshops unless you chose making Maori kites, mural art or sewing which you have to do for the whole day.

The workshop that I chose was sewing and as you can see in the picture I am using a sewing machine.
The thing I found challenging was trying to get the lines straight when I’m using the sewing machine, but the thing I found easy was keeping the sewing machine nice and slow.

Area Week 6

We use Area in almost every thing, even video games like Sims and Mine-craft where you have to plan the Area of your house.

A Square grid is the thing that most people use to find out the Area of things like buildings and houses.
If you wanted to build a pool the counsel would say you have to have a fence around it so that's where the grid kicks in.
What you have to do is find a big piece of land for your pool and then you measure the Area with a tape measure and then draw it on the grid and then go show it to a builder and then they will build it for you.
Here is an example of anotherway to find out Area, what you do is count one row and one column and then do a thing we like to call length x width so when you have the total numbers of the row and columns you multiply them and then you have the total number of the square units inside a shape.

Rhinos - Week 5

Rhinos are big heavily armored mammals that you will find all around Africa, most of the time they are peaceful herbivores but if they are provoked they will charge.
Here is a photo of a rhino.

This rhino's horn is strong enough to kill three grown men, if you are charged by a rhino and you survive you will consider it a miracle.

How to survive a rhino:
If you just happen to be riding around in a jeep or car in Africa and you come across a rhino, if you don't want it to charge you, turn off everything in the car and keep still no matter what until the rhino goes away.

How to tell if a rhino is about to charge:
If you see a rhino with its horn on the ground, it means it it going to charge, it will look a bit like this.

So if you see a rhino like this, stay still and don't move.

The Summarising Strategy - Week 4

We often use the summarising strategy when we are finding information out of books and texts.
I'll now show an example of the summarising strategy:

What you do is you find some key words out of a book or text and write them down on your computer or book. Then you you choose some of the key words and write a sentence  in your own words, because if you copy straight out of the book or text that's called plagiarism.  People can get into a lot of trouble if you are plagiarizing.

Here is an example of a sentence:

Key words

dog
cat

Dogs love to chase cats because they do not like them out and about in their territory.

Matchstick Maths - Week 3

In Room 12 we have been learning about measuring accurately and Mrs Miller said that we had to make our name out of 50 match sticks and it had to be 20 cm tall or 1 metre long.  Here is my name.

This maths was hard and challenging but really fun. I did the one where you had to make it a metre long.
We had to measure accurately because if our starting point and finishing point were wrong that basically mucks the whole thing, that's why we have to measure accurately.
After we finished our name, Mrs Miller gave us a sheet and we had to work out the value of someones name.

All About Sharks - Week 2

Sharks are fierce sea creatures, in fact it is the king of the sea - here are some photos.

This is a great white shark, the strongest of all sharks.  In fact, he is the king of the sea.
Sharks are strong enough to take down a blue whale.Sharks always attack whales from below because they know that they will  get wiped by their tail.  Sharks are in fact at the bottom of the food chain. Tiger sharks will eat anything in it's path, even poisonous snakes like this  (Yellow bellied - sea snake)

And that's my report on sharks.

My Dog Jack - Week 1

My dog is a mareama sheep dog.  His name is Jack I will show you some photos of his kind.

These dogs are meant to chase away these bad boys (grizzly bears).

Grizzly bears always are always  tempted to go to farms so they can eat the sheep, but we just keep him as a pet because we don't have big bears in N.Z
My dog is always wanting to play with us because when we give him his food he only eats his meat for breakfast and saves his biscuits for when we get home from school. That's why we only give him breakfast and dinner.  My dog is extremely fluffy, he is so fluffy because we never brush him because he is terrified of the dog brush and any sticks above his head.
Once when mum let him out, she forgot to close the gate so he went out across the road to our car and sat down and when people walked past the car he barked like he was guarding it.

Swimming Reflection.

I learned how to…swim with our clothes on

Something I found challenging was…taking off our clothes while treading water and putting our life jackets on while treading water.

At the end of the year I would like to improve on…our survival back stroke .

Mrs Miller, Mr Kenny or Mrs Lowe could help me by…
demonstrating what we are doing on land before we do it.

The best part about swimming was…having a free swim after we had done our tabloids wheels day.

All about Lions

Lions are fierce big cats, some people refer to them as big furry cuddle machines but they are actually killing machines.  Here are some photos of lions.

This is the fierce African male lion.  He is the most fierce lion of all.  Not like the female lion, the male lion is always the lazy lion because he leaves all the jobs of hunting and other stuff like that to the female lion.

This is the female African lion, she is not particularly the lazy one like the male lion because she does all the work there is to do.

Moving on to cubs now
African lion cubs are not like the adult lion killing machines, these are in fact cuddle machines. You can get as close as you want to these little fellas, as long as their mother is not around.   Touch one of her babies when she is around and you'll be eaten for dinner in no time.

Superhero book day

Last Friday it was superhero book day and we all had to dress up as our favorite book character.
Here is is my picture .

At the parade 1 person from each class was selected to be the best dressed person.  Henrietta was selected from our class, she was dressed as soul surfer, she picked her because after the tsunami she encouraged kids to get back in the water.

My Buddy from Room 6 & 7

Today after morning tea we went to room 6 &7 with Mrs England and Mrs Kelly to meet our new buddy.  My buddy's name is Che he is five years old.

His favorite food is popcorn and his favorite fruit is apples.  His favorite activity is building space-ships out of Lego. The story I read to my buddy is 10 hooting Owls, he thought the story was funny so he chuckled through the whole story.

After we did that, we went over to the pride wall and got a photo in front of it then we went to the playground and went down the slide and then we went over to the monkey bars.  Che was really good on the monkey bars then it was time to go so I said bye and then we went back to room 7 and 6 to get our stuff and then we went back to class for the day.

Here is a photo of the both of us.

Spyro the Destroyer

My superheroes name is Spyro, he lives at the bottom of an active volcano called Mount Chupacabra.  Nobody will ever get in because it always shoots out magma.  In the bottom of the volcano there is a cave, a dark cave, a dark mossy cave.  The thing is, that once you have gone into the cave you can breathe and only the lava that is in there is in a small lava pool.

He wears a blood-shot red mask with two points on the sides.  His right hand has razor sharp steel claws that can cut through anything including concrete.  His left arm is made of solid steel that can break aluminium.  His feet are pitch black which makes them blend in with the body.  His feet have 3 claws on the front and one on the back.  he has dark black sharp pointy wings on his back.

He likes to swipe the rich people’s money and give it to the poor.  He can be nice and bad at the same time.  He loves to compete against other people in disguise.  He likes to roam around the dark alleyways of New York.

He likes throwing soul sand at people and watching them crumble into dust, he is easily distracted by the swift sound of the flowing night.

Maths

In room 12 I have been learning about Rotation, Translation and Reflection. Look closely at the picture to see what I have been doing.
