My Artifact

Have you ever thought who were the Greek gods? Thousands of years ago in ancient Greece people told stories about the gods and these particular special stories are called myths. Greek mythology is the body of myths and teachings that you can find deep inside Greek culture. Throughout this blog post you will find out about the Greek gods

My artifact has a lot of clay models to represent the Greek architecture back then.

Something that was really challenging was making the clay models because they constantly were breaking and it was really hard to actually mold the clay models itself.

I am proud of my learning because I didn't rush I took my time and made as good as I can.

The learning muscles I used  and improved on are revising because I constantly had to keep on going  back and making changes. Another muscle I used was my perseverance muscle because I had to keep trying even when it seemed impossible to do.

The Snow

Boom!!!  the sound of dynamite exploding in the distance. My Mum said that they use it for getting rid of rocks so people can ski and snowboard in different locations each one with a different skill level.

Pow!!! A snow ball came flying at my head “Ow!” I shouted.

“ Conner wait till we get down to the ski field and get our waterproof gear on and then you can have a snowball  fight. “Ok…” my brother moaned. We line up for the chair lift down to the ski field. We get there and got our stuff on and got our boards they were bigger than I expected. Me and my dad clipped into our boards  and   went to the edge of the ski slope. I thought to myself should I do this and then whoosh I went zooming down the ski slope on my snow board I wiped out  three quarters of the way down I said to myself  I’m  going to change to skis now. Me and my dad lined up to go on the ski lift. I sat down on the chair. Tt went up slowly and got faster and then thud the chair lift stopped. I thought  to myself what happened is it broken am I going to up here forever eeek phew the chair lift started back up again. I thought I was a goner I hoped of the chair lift and walked down with my snow board I asked my dad if I could change to skis and he said “ sure,”. We went to the ski shop and got some skis and again there I was on the edge of the ski slope I lent ford and whoosh!!! I was off  I was going faster than I expected and then BOOM!!!! I crashed into the snow my skis came off and came tumbling down the mountain I managed to grab onto some ice and help myself . Picking up  my skis I walked back up that was enough for me. I walked over to my brother who was sledding and I said to him “ do you want build a snow fort”

“Ok” he said we found a hole and we cleared all the snow out then disaster struck we were under attack we hid in snow fort throwing snowballs at the enemy we had idea who it was. I peeked up over the wall of the fort and guess who it was DAD. Me and brother grabbed more snow balls and absolutely obliterated him with snow balls. He shouted “ I surrender you guys win,”

“It's about time,” I said

“ and it's also time to go,” dad said.

I am proud of this learning because it has really good descriptive writing.

This piece of writing really puts a picture in the readers head about what we did at the snow.

I have been working on making my writing more descriptive and I think I did that really well. In my writing I used my revising muscle to go back and make my writing better. I think my most descriptive vocab words would probably be distance, tumbling, locations, waterproof and zooming because I think they are really descriptive and put a picture in the readers head.

Matariki

In Totara hub we have learning how to celebrate Matariki in a variety of different ways.


The names of the Matariki stars names are Tupu-a-nuku,Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna-a-rangi and Ururangi. Also Matariki is the time to harvest and plant crops and plants for kai and hangi. Matariki is also time for people to go fishing and gather kaimoana. It's also a good time to make and fly kites. People celebrate matariki in lots of different each having a special meaning to the family or person.

I am proud of my painting because it represents one of the stars really well.

We also made puti puti out of flax or Hareke. Here is the link to a tutorial on how to make a puti puti or a rose.
The learning muscle I was stretching while I was making my stone painting was my perseverance muscled because I had to restart a few times to get the painting right and the star in the right place.

Maori hand games
One day after Matariki day we had some people come in from the Kahurangi Dance Company to teach us some maori hand games such as knuckle bones and hey tuma tu tuma.
Knucklebones
knucklebones was a popular maori game for kids and adults and they look a bit like this


One of the ways to play knuckle bones is by placing your hand on the ground and grab four of your knuckle bones and make a square that goes around your hand. With the fifth knuckle bone place it in the palm of your hand throw the knuckle bone that is in your hand up in the air and grab off the ground and catch the knuckle bone in the air then throw the knuckle bone in the air again place the one you picked off the ground in the center then catch the one that you threw in the air keep doing this until all of the knuckle bones are in the center. I really had to use my perseverance muscle when playing knuckle bones.

Maui and the fish writting

Maui and the fish retold

Maui lived in a small whare shared with his 4 brothers, Maui had very special powers that run through his blood. Maui’s brothers didn’t like him because he was better at everything they did.

One day while Maui was asleep late at night the brothers planned to go on a fishing trip the next morning without their  brother but Maui had  been listening and pretending to be asleep. When Maui’s brothers fell asleep Maui sneaked out of his whare and hid at the bottom of the brothers beautifully carved waka.

The next morning the 4 brothers rode  the waka out to sea past the breakers where the sea was calm slow the 4 brothers set out their fishing rods and waited then Maui made his entrance he sprung out from the bottom of the waka and gave his four brothers a massive fright. The 4 brothers were so angry they threw rods into the sea and yelled as loud as they could they were so frustrated because Maui had come fishing with them they just sat at the back of the boat did and nothing. Maui was not satisfied where the four brothers were going to go fishing so he paddled through the night using marama the moons moonlight to guide him. Finally when the sun came up maui stopped the waka. Maui had no bait so he gashed open his cheek with the tip of his magic jaw bone and smeared his warm red blood all over the jaw bone.  

Maui casted the jaw bone into the sea and it sank to the bottom with the speed of a bullet He caught his line on a tiko tiko on top of some sunken land. He thought it was a fish. He tried to heave the so-called fish up into the waka he said a karakia which made anything in the sea rise and it gave some mighty strenghth heaved  from the bottom but then he heard an almighty roar. Coming from the sea a massive beast rose up. He tried to eat Maui’s four brothers but Maui struck him in the eye with his taiaha. The beast roared and a massive tidal wave formed and headed straight towards Maui and his brothers waka.

Maui chanted a karakia as loud has he could and sent the tidal wave in the opposite direction.

Maui blessed his taiaha with a strong blessing he struck the great beast in the heart and it fell onto the sea and Maui said another karakia which made the great beast float on the top of the sea. Maui walked off to get his hook and that gave his four brothers a chance to start hacking the fish with their paddles

While the four brothers were hacking on top of the fish ruff(rough) mountain ranges and valleys started to form and is now known as the North Island.  

I am proud of this piece of writing because if have persevered and used refining muscle really well and it has great descriptive words. What challenged was using my refining and my perseverance muscle to get my writing to a gold level. Putting paragraphs in my writing was a little bit different for me because I don't usually do that in my writing.
                      

Perspective art

  

How to do oil pastel perspective art

Perspective art is when have a path or a hallway and make it look like the hallway or path is going farther and farther away. Perspective art is really fun because it looks realistic, it looks 3d and it's really awesome to look at. The two things you will need to make art really awesome is the vanishing point and the horizon line. The vanishing point is when you end your river into a small point and make it look like it’s gone really far away. If you would like to make your own perspective art you may read on.

Equipment:

1 pack of oil pastels       

1 piece of A4 paper

1 pencil

1 piece of news paper

How to make it:

1. Draw a river starting really wide and going smaller and smaller until you’re 3 quarters of the way to the end of the piece of paper then to a small point so that can be your vanishing point.
2. Draw a small pit above the river really light in pencil because that will be your horizon line.
3. Above the pit draw some mountain ranges or some clouds.
4. Get the blue colors and color it in by doing big flicks in the river with each color and then use white to merge them when you're done.
5. you can either choose if you want to do it crazy colors or realistic.
6. Draw a mountain range above the horizon line and color that in with either grey or light blue and white. And color them in like you did with the river
7.  Draw on the sides of the river  a line going up and then down, draw four of these on each side of the river and color those like you did with the river except the colors will be green and brown when you done coloring merge the colors together with the white.
8. Color in on top of the horizon line with orange and peach do the same coloring as you did with the river but instead of using white to merge it use peach and then your finished with a amazing piece of art.
9. Display your art for everyone to see.

I am proud of this because I worked really hard on it and I think it looks really good.
To make this piece of art I used oil pastels I am also really pleased with the blending the colors together.  

Rugby

Rugby is a sport that uses one ball and has two teams. The aim of the game is to run with the ball and place it on the try line and the team with the most try's  wins. A conversion is when the kicker of the team has the ball on a tee, placed on the ground, and you kick it up off the ground and over the goalpost. Getting the ball over the goalpost will gain you three points. A scrum is when the big and strong guys called forwards get into a position that looks a bit like this.

The four best rugby teams in the world are the New-Zealand All Blacks, the Australia  Wallabies, the South Africa Springboks, and the England Lions.

Equipment you need to play rugby:

• Mouth Guard    
• head gear optional
• rugby armor optional
• rugby boots. 

I play rugby for Napier Pirates Rugby Club I am 9th grade and play for the Pirate Rockets. The worst thing that has happened to me while playing rugby will probably be when I got knocked in the head with another player. I really enjoy playing rugby.

I want to be the best street fighter player in the world  

I pretend to be Ryu form Street fighter and fight my brother like he does.

I feel hot and stressed when I get stuck on a level

I touch high tech controllers every time I play playstation  

I worry that one day I will get a seizure from playing too many games.    

I understand that playing too many games a day is really bad for your eyes.

I say that some video games such as Minecraft can help you with some learning

Something that challenged me was picking what I was going to be in this poem. I am proud of this because I think it is described well and has impact on the reader.

Animal writting

One hot sunny day I was walking to my friend Nick's house and when we were about three quarters of the way there we spot this strange looking animal in between two trees. It had four horns on his body. There was one on its head, two on its knees, a a good 4 hours and then I had to go home. But when I got home that animal was sitting at the door staring at me with big red  bloodshot eyes and gave me the chills. I walked inside and ate diner which was amazingly yum but when I went into my bedroom… The creature was in my bed staring at me A massive  chill ran down my spine.

I slowly crept out of my bedroom to get my mum to tell her that there is a creature in my room I here scuttling on the floor. “Come on let’s go!” I shouted but when we got there the creature was gone. My mum said that it was probably my mind playing tricks with me, I thought so too. I escorted myself to my bedroom jumped on top of my blankets and woke up in the middle of the night because I heard weird noises. Slowly I open my eyes and standing on me was that creature with a cheeky looking grin on its mouth I screamed!!! All of The living life out of me.It had this weird  pointy thing straped to its arm and then it stabbed me in the arm. I woke the next morning feeling a little weird…

I glared around and everything looks bigger I look at the mirror and scream. I am a mouse don don don I try to get of my bed but it is a big drop. Well I guess I have  nothing to live for I jumped of(off) my bed and hit the ground I heard a whooshing sound and then I start to ( oh I haven't hit the ground yet) swirl  and then I am  back in my bed.  After dinner I look out the window and there was the creature I tell my mum I just have to get some fresh air so I go outside and get my dads shotgun I load it and point at the creature I pull the trigger bam!!! the creature was finally dead.   

I am proud of my writing because it has some really descriptive words and more punctuation then any of my other writing. I really tried hard to use my full stops because sometimes I write really really long sentences and forget my full stops. I have used speech marks when someone is talking. I need to put a comma after the end speech mark.

Something that I need to work on is in my writing I need to put in paragraphs. I needed to have feedback and a bit of teacher help for this.

 

 

Camp Reflection

Something that challenged me was doing the fear factor food challenge because Mrs Hill made seem like it was something that tasted yuck  but most of the time it was yum . Something I enjoyed was going down the water slide because when you got soaped you went really fast and its fun getting to the end because you got all muddy and you got a lolly pop when your body got to the end of the water slide. My biggest achievement would probably be going to sleep at camp Weka because everyone was loud as could be but I did it which is a relief. My best highlight form camp has to playing in the bamboo forest because it was fun to explore around all the bamboo and go in the really coll huts some people made. The worst thing about camp was probably all the rain that came with us to camp  because it stopped us doing some of our activities we were going to do but we still had a great time.

The Trapdoor

Ring ring ring ring I pushed the rusty old doorbell on my aunt's wide  dusty old front double door.She lives in a huge 6 storie old creepy mansion in death valley America I was with her for 2 weeks because my mum and dad were out in hollywood going to a red carpet marathon.

Any way I walked into my aunt’s mansion She came walking down the stairs to the front door and said

hello Ben  would you Like me to take  your bags to your

room  Ben, Yes  please I said. Oh and Your Bedroom is

Upstairs 3rd room to the left. Ok  said  Ben. Strolling  Upstairs  into my room.   opening the door to  my room I walked in  and something caught My eye there was a Loose bit of Carpet at the end of the room. I  creeped over  to the end of the room to investigate I pulled the loose bit of carpet up and there was a bit of wood under there with a small bronze rusty  handle attached to it. I carefully opened  the trapdoor. Peering down into the deep dark casym. there was a slide going down the massive casym I said to myself should I go down the slide or should I  not ? Um I will go down it so I sped down the slide to the bottom of the trapdoor and there was a shining sword made out of diamonds. Picking the sword up it started to glow so then I swung it at a rock on the ground and it cut right through the middle, cool I said I walked forward some more and I could hear trees rustling in the distance and then I saw  a door and I opened the door and was astonished Kapiti island I walked through the door and I was in one of the Waikanai tunnels and I could hear   coming from the other side so I walked further into the tunnel and there was a tunnel on the side . Walking through the other tunnel I saw Ngahere and his cousin conrad and he said to me what are you doing here he said um I, let's just say I walked through a magical door and ended up here. That same thing happened to me Ngahere said. Man where did you get that sweet diamond sword Conrad said. I got it from my aunt's house but then something let out a humongous roar!!!, wha wha what was that Conrad said I don’t no I said I think I know what it is ngahere said What is it me and Conrad said said it’s the Taniwha of Waikanai beach said Ngahere . The what what what what what I said The Taniwha of Waikanai beach Ngahere repeated. What!!! I said a Taniwha here like right now. Yes said Ngahere wait a minute how do you know  it’s a Taniwha said Conrad, Um my dad told me a legend when I was 4 about a taniwha on Kapiti island it's just a guess  it might just be a magical lion or something since this is a magical place right said Ngahere, um yeah I said. anyway we need to get out of these tunnels before the thing gets in and eats us I said, Ngahere do you know the way out I said yes this way Ngahere said okay follow  Ngahere out and then we will try and kill it Conrad said with what I said  With that sweet diamond sword of your’s stupid said Ngahere oh yeah I said let's go I said  we ran for about ten minutes and then we found the exit we exited the tunnels and there was the the taniwha waiting for us… “What do we do I said” “don’t move it has the sight of a T-rex so it can only see sudden movements but  then conrad tripped over my foot and the taniwha ran at us and then I stabbed in the heart with my diamond sword and then I felt dizzy and then whoosh I was back in my bedroom at my aunt's house and there was the diamond sword sitting at the end of the bed.
